“L’uomo moderno è sempre più abituato a “violare” l’intimità altrui. Ormai è diventato quasi come un bisogno spiare le vite degli altri, attraverso quello che definiamo “ingresso principale”;  lo facciamo quasi inconsapevolmente postando e condividendo immagini e pensieri. Ci sentiamo, a nostra volta, osservati e ciò ci spinge a creare un’immagine distorta e fittizia di noi stessi: una sorta di alter ego che ostenta, attraverso la rete, il suo ideale di vita perfetta. Tutto questo contribuisce paradossalmente, a creare quel vuoto incolmabile che l’uomo si porta dietro e che cerca vanamente di riempire riducendosi in uno stato di insoddisfazione latente. Il mio intimus è diverso: non è una rappresentazione di un modello sociale di bellezza e perfezione bensì le mie immagini ritraggono quei luoghi in cui un evento “straordinario” e distruttivo ha stravolto lo stato delle cose. Sono luoghi improvvisamente abbandonati, “svestiti” del loro abito migliore. Un cataclisma, come fu il terremoto nell’Irpinia del 1980, che con la propria forza distruttrice ci rese infermi facendo emergere solo la parte più vera di noi. Mettendo insieme gli scatti che negli anni avevo realizzato in questi luoghi, mi si è materializzata un racconto: la storia di uomini, donne, bambini, che sorpresi nella loro intimità, dovettero abbandonare le stanze segrete del loro animo per salvarsi. Quello che per loro è stato un momento di enorme smarrimento, perché nella società moderna la casa rappresenta ancora tutto ciò che si possiede, luogo inaccessibile dove realmente si può scoprire e vedere la vera essenza dell’umanità, dove ognuno di noi è messo a nudo, dove si vivono anche momenti più dolorosi, più felici, quelli che per una certa pudicità non siano ancora pronti a condividere con gli atri, oggi è per me uno scrigno di ricordi, una narrazione, un’incursione nella loro intimità”.

The contemporary man is used to violating other people’s privacy. Spying on the lives of others, through the front door of the internet, has nearly become a necessity. It is us who grant access to our private lives, and we do so almost
unconsciously by posting and sharing photos and thoughts. These actions in turn make us feel observed and drive us to create a distorted and fictitious image of
ourselves, an online alter ego to flaunt the ideal of a perfect life. Al of this, paradoxically, contributes to create the huge emptiness that man carries around and vainly tries to fil, ending ni a state of underlying dissatisfaction. My intimus si
different: it is not a representation of a social ideal of beauty and perfection, on the contrary my photos depict places where an extraordinary and destructive event has overturned the state of things. These are environments which have been abruptly abandoned, stripped of their best robes. Acataclysm as terrible as the 1980 earthquake in Irpinia, with its destructive power, left us crippled, revealing only the most hidden and true part of ourselves.

Putting together the photos that I had taken ni these places over the years, a story materialized: the tale of men, women and children who were assaulted in their privacy and had to abandon the secret rooms of their soul to save themselves. In
contemporary society, the house still represents everything we own. It is the place where you can really discover and see the true essence of humanity, where everyone of us is exposed, where the most painful and the happiest moments are lived, moments that we are ashamed of and not ready to share with others. What for them was a moment of loss and confusion, today for me si a treasure chest full
of memories, a story, an incursion ni their intimate life.
