For the 1st International Prize for Silver Printing from Negatives THE NEGATIVE PRIZE
> AIMS
TAG – Tevere Art Gallery cultural association launches the 1st International Prize for Silver Printing from Negatives. Named “The Negative Prize”, it aims to promote and enhance the arts of Photography and Silver Printing.
The contest envisages prizes aimed at the promotion and dissemination of these arts: an exhibition in Rome at the TAG – Tevere Art Gallery of all the winning prints; darkroom sessions with Luciano Corvaglia, professional printer, for all finalists; an evaluation of the prints that have passed the pre-selection stage.
Honourable mentions will be given by the jurors.

> REQUIREMENTS
The printer must be also the author of the printed photo submitted to the contest.
All entrants must be over the age of 18 at registration point.
The contest is open to all photographers – professionals, amateurs and beginners; professional printers are, instead, not eligible to participate and win. The contest is open to entrants of any nationality.
Members of the jury, organizers and their first and second degree family members are not eligible to participate and win.
Collectives and/or groups of authors are not eligible to participate and win.

> OPENING AND CLOSING
Applications must be received no later than 30th May 2019. Prints admitted to the selection stage must be received by courier, or delivered personally, by no later than 7th June 2019.

> JUDGES , PRE-SELECTION AND SELECTION STAGES
The Negative Prize contest stages:
- Preselection: at this stage, prints andphotos, as submitted at registration, will be evaluated by Luciano Corvaglia.
- Selection: all candidates who have passed the preselection stage will be required to courier, or personally deliver, their prints to the Headquarters of TAG – Tevere Art Gallery. Prints will be evaluated and scored by an exceptional board of judges, comprising the TAG Tevere Art Gallery Artistic Committee:

> REGISTRATION AND PROCEDURES
- Entrants can submit between 1 and 24 prints per entry. Those who will not pass the preselection stage will be given the opportunity to re-register the same photo by submitting one or several different re-prints of it.
- To enter, you must fill in the online form that can be found on the the following webpage
- Entries made following any other potential procedure will not be considered.
TAG – Tevere Art Gallery cultural association reserves the right to disqualify any work of art that does not comply with the competition rules, and any work of art containing defamatory and/or obscene content.
Each entry will be admitted to the contest and evaluated exclusively upon receipt of payment of the entry fee.
Once submitted, entries cannot be modified online. Should you require to amend any of your entries, please email prize@tevereartgallery.net.

> REGISTRATION FEE
The registration fee includes the membership to the TAG – Tevere Art Gallery cultural association, and a partial contribution to the organisation and management costs.
The minimum registration fee (1 to 8 prints maximum) is of €30.
Entrants can enter more prints, up to a maximum of 24, by paying incremental fees:
€30 to enter between 1 and 8 prints
€60 to enter between 9 and 16 prints
€90 to enter between 17 and 24 prints
Entrants must keep a copy of the payment(s) made.
Registration fees cannot be reimbursed.

> PRESELECTION – SELECTION – ARTWORK TO BE SUBMITTED
The preselection will be exclusively made by Luciano Corvaglia, professional printer.
There are no constraints on the format that can be submitted, be this of the negative or of the print. There are no constraints on the material used, nor on the chemicals or the print media. Prints made with liquid emulsion applied to any medium will also be accepted.
Negatives derived from digital files, post produced and ink-jet printed over transparent acetate will also be accepted.
The sole condition for entries is that all prints must have been made in a darkroom using silver salts.
The judging board reserves the right to perform ferrocyanide or alcohol test to verify the authenticity of the print, should they feel it necessary to do so.
- Stage 1 – Preselection
For each submitted entry, entrants will need to upload two files: a picture in jpg format of the darkroom silver print, and a picture in jpg format of the corresponding negative.
Procedure:
Entrants will need to upload two files for each print.
- Picture of the print: hold the print with one or two hands and take a picture. The shot will need to show both the print and the hands. Name the file your surname_your name_progressive number (e.g.: ROSSI_MARIO_01.jpeg)
- Picture of the negatives:
- Analogic negative: hold up to the light the negative of the print submitted. Hold it in your hand, and take the picture. The shot will need to show both the negative and the hand. Name the file your surname_your name_NEG_related print’s progressive number (e.g.: ROSSI_MARIO_NEG_01.jpeg)
- Digital negative: send the original file, without any processing. Name the file your surname_your name_NEG_related print’s progressive number (e.g.: ROSSI_MARIO_NEG_01.jpeg)

Each single file must not exceed 1MB in size.
- On the online form, upload the files in the relevant fields.
Entrants will receive a report via email of all the submitted prints within 10 days from sign up completion. The report will indicate which prints have passed the preselection stage. Where possible, Luciano Corvaglia will provide suggestions for improving the entries that have not passed the preselection stage. Entrants will be able, if they chose to do so, to submit a new entry of these specific prints once improved. Adequate notice will be given in the email to allow potential re-printing and new submission of these entries. For re-submissions, please follow the procedure that will be indicated in the email.
- Stage 2 – Selection
Prints that have passed the pre-selection stage will have to be couriered or personally delivered to the Headquarters of TAG – Tevere Art Gallery – Via di Santa Passera, 25 – 00146 Rome, Italy.
Tevere Art Gallery is not responsible for any missed evaluation at Selection stage due to delivery delays.
Each print must bear the name assigned at pre-selection stage (e.g. Rossi_Mario_01) pencilled on the back.
Prints must reach TAG – Tevere Art Gallery no later than 7th June 2019.

> CATEGORIES AND THEME
Single category; free theme.

> EVALUATION CRITERIA FOR THE SELECTION
The maximum score will be of 100; the evaluation will be based on the following criteria:
➤ shoot
➤ printing technique
➤ degree of difficulty of the negative
➤ interpretation of the negative
➤ presentation
Each criteria will be awarded a score between 0 and 20 points.
Scores awarded, by criteria, will be notified via email to each entrant.

> PRIZES – AWARDS
Exhibitionof the winning prints (scores of 95/100or higher) at TAG – Tevere Art Gallery.The exhibition will be curated by the Organising Committee. The total score awarded to each finalist print will be made public during the exhibition.
Onedarkroom printing sessionwith Luciano Corvaglia for all prints who will receive a minimum score of 80/100.
Finalist prints (i.e. their digital reproductions) will be published on the website of TAG – Tevere Art Gallery.
We offer no cash or other financial alternative for any of the prizes.
Finalists will be announced on TAG’s website.
Winners (entrants and prints) will be announced on TAG’s website and via email.
The full name or pseudonym of each entrant whose work will be either finalist or winner will be published online together with the selected images.
The decision of the board of jury is final and cannot be appealed against.
Jurors will give special mentions.

> RETURN OF PRINTS
Photographers-printers must organise a trusted courier at their own expense for the return of the prints. Alternatively, they can personally pick them up or entrust, with a written authorisation, a third party to do so.
All packaging material for prints sent to TAG – Tevere Art Gallery for The Negative Prize must be adequate to protect the prints and reusable for the return delivery.
Return deliveries or pick up of the prints must be organised within the timeframe that will be indicated in an email that photographers-printers will receive. Prints that will not have been picked up by 30thOctober 2019 will be destroyed.
Delivery/return costs for the prints are fully at the expense of the photographers-printers.

> RESPONSIBILITY
Tevere Art Gallery cultural association will take the utmost care in the custody of the artworks; however it declines any responsibility for any theft, arson, loss or injury to artworks and people that may happen during the period of the event and its organisation. Should you wish to insure your artwork, you should set up a private insurance policy.

> CONSENT
Photographers retain the rights to the sumbitted images but relinquish to Tevere Art Gallery cultural association, without any financial compensation, the rights to reproduce and exhibit all the artwork and text copy released for translation and communications to the public, publication on the websites and other forms of communications, promotion and activities, in relation to the event and its organisation.
Each entrant expressly authorises Tevere Art Gallery cultural association and its direct delegates to process the personal data shared, including feeding into databases managed by the above mentioned, under the Privacy law 657/96 and subsequent modifications Legislative Decree 196/2003 (Privacy code).
By participating to the contest, entrants are required to become members of the Tevere Art Gallery cultural association, accepting its articles of association and the Rules of The Negative Prize.
By signing up to the contest, entrants implicitly accept these Rules in their entirety and without any reservation whatsoever.

> INELIGIBILITY, ELIMINATION AND DISQUALIFICATION FROM THE CONTEST
Images will not be accepted to the contest if: the author has not correctly filled in and submitted the contest entry form, together with its attachments; the entry fee shows as unpaid; the image’s file does not open or the image is damaged; there are text or logos over the image.
Images with misleading, offensive, harmful or defaming content will be eliminated from the contest.
Entrants may be disqualified, and hence lose any potential award, if: the personal information provided is false or incorrect; utilise photos they are not the author of or for which do not hold full copyrights; fail to send the original prints on time; keep an argumentative, abusive or defaming behaviour towards the Tevere Art Gallery and/or the jury members.

> GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS
By signing up to the contest, entrants implicitly declare:
- To accept these rules unconditionally;
- To be in possession of the full copyrights and rights of use over the images submitted;
- To accept full civil or criminal liability in relation to any dispute that may arise over the copyrights or rights of use of the images submitted to the contest, and of their content, thereby relieving TAG – Tevere Art Gallery from any responsibility in this sense;
- that any person shown in the photos has given consent to be portrayed as presented;
- to accept that Tevere Art Gallery and the event’s partners do not take any responsibility and are not liable for any inappropriate use of the images.
Entry fees will be refunded only in the event of cancellation of the contest by TAG – Tevere Art Gallery.
Winners cannot request exchanges of prizes, nor the cash equivalent.
TAG – Tevere Art Gallery reserves the right to amend these rules if deemed necessary to improve the contest.
TAG – Tevere Art Gallery takes no responsability or liability for imprecise, inaccurate or incomplete information generated by the website users, or by any device or software related to, or used for the purposes of the contest. TAG – Tevere Art Gallery takes no responsability or liability for technical faults, be it related to hardware or any kind of software, for loss of internet connectivity, jammed data transmissions, other issues or technical malfunction in relation to the Contest.
Tevere Art Gallery takes no responsability or liability for any mistake, oversight, corruption, interruption, cancellation, defect, delay in the operation or transmission, problems with the lines of communication, thefth or destruction or non-authorised access or alteration to the submitted artwork.
Tevere Art Gallery takes no responsability or liability for any issue or technical malfunction of any telephone network or line, online computer systems, servers, IT equipment, software, undelivered email to Tevere Art Gallery caused by technical errors, human errors, internet congestion or congestion of any website, or any combination of the above, including any injury or damage to personal computers, of the artists or any other person, linked to or deriving from taking part to or downloading material related to the contest.
Tevere Art Gallery takes no responsability or liability in case a photo from any of the entrants cannot be reviewed, cannot be projected as planned, and any issues including computer virus infections, bugs, tampering, actions non authorised, fraud or technical issues.
Tevere Art Gallery reserves the right to cancel the competition should not be possible to reach a sufficient number of images to allow an adequate seletion. Should this happen, Tevere Art Gallery will refund to entrants the entry fees; costs incurred to make the entry fee payment will not be refunded.
Files received for the pre-selections will be destroyed at the end of the event.
